What Binds Us
Individual
We see as a constant in her work a multitude of threads which, although they sometimes show up in an unruly form seemingly tangled up as skeins, in reality are a reflection of the complex human relationships, but in the end all the threads come together to a central point which is what binds us. We are all connected, bound with one another because essentially we are equal.
So was Ileana able to feel along her experiences with the people she has met in the countries she visited, reflected in her paintings through the different treatment of colour and textures, and the different backings on which the artist works according to the inspiration she gets from each country.
Ileana creates her own pictorial language, with personal symbolism, by means of representing the human figure, heads, eyes or bodies grouped and united or, as we can see in this production, connected through the threads.
According to Ileana, we should walk together in this world, even though at times we attempt to go each our own way and even reject one another, dooming those marginalised to loneliness. But for Ileana there is always hope, and that hope is in love. Love is "what binds us".
